My name is Nick Petersen and I am an Associate Professor of Sociology & Criminology at the University of Miami, where I have a secondary appointment in the School of Law.
Much of my work focuses on racial-ethnic inequalities within criminal courts at the individual and neighborhood levels, including pretrial detention, prosecutorial charging, and sentencing in capital and non-capital cases. My scholarship also examines racial-ethnic disparities in policing, historical violence, collateral consequences of criminal justice contact, and other criminal justice policies.
